Starbucks as Pop Culture

My blog –Starbucks

Popular Culture is something that is popular in that particular culture.  It seems to be “trendy” or “in”.  I believe it means something that is well known or is recognized by many.

Understanding how popular culture affects a business would make it easier to advertise to those that would purchase your products.  With many people buying the item, it makes it more popular, and helps make the business grow.

To me, one of the biggest artifacts of popular culture would have to be Starbucks.  Starbucks works from everything from business meetings to a social gathering place.  You may even see their familiar logo cup on many television shows with stars drinking coffee from them.  Everyone knows what company that is and where it comes from.  Most Starbucks are easily accessible and everyone knows that it’s a coffee shop.  There even seems to be some prestige about carrying around a cup with the Starbucks logo.

  2. Betty, I really think you did a nice job on your blog. I can honestly say that you are correct about the popularity of Starbucks. I am not a coffee drinker, and I think they are way overpriced. I love to go in the Starbucks store to pick up gift cards for my family. It smells really good in these stores.
You are correct that this is a popular culture artifact. That is why they are so overpriced, but in my opinion all these gourmet coffee shops are as expensive as the rest of them. I have never seen a commercial for Starbucks on TV. The one thing that I can say commercials even drive the prices up on items that they pay for TV time. We as consumers are our own worst enemies.

  3. Good job on the blog. Just looking at the Starbucks logo makes me want to go get a mocha Latte. The logo on the cups in very inviting for the general public. In some ways it reminds me of those impulse items in the grocery store checkout lines that we just have to have. Who doesn't love a good cup of joe.

  5. Great recognition of something prominent in our current pop culture. Previous comments are correct - Starbucks does not advertise on TV... and they are 'this popular'. These small coffee shops are everywhere and each one of them has a line.

  6. Very true Starbucks is like in many ways like apple. Meaning it seems cool to have a cup of Starbucks in your hand. It sounds weird but it's true it seems like when you carry a cup of it it in many ways puts you in a category of being important. On the run to an important business deal that's just what I see from my point of view.
